Ready for lift-off

-

Andy Campbell’s optimistic article paints an ambitious future of Scotland and I agree that our space industry

should be supported (28 July). Currently the Scottish Government would be unable to support it adequately due to EU state aid rules.

Intervention by the state in a specific industry sector, or to companies located in specific regions, is not allowed, as detailed on the Scottish Government website. This is especially true if it provides an area or industrial sector with an advantage above any other

part of the EU or improves an area’s competitiveness.

When we leave the EU this can be one of many areas in which we can flourish by investing in underlying infrastructure which will seed new industries and reinvigorate existing ones. Foundations must be put down to move away from a consumption driven economic model to a modern investment led model.
