TOURING CAR LEGENDS AT KNOCKHILL

-

A host of legendary names from the golden ages of touring cars will be lining up on the grid at Knockhill this weekend.

This Saturday and Sunday see the return of the David Leslie Super Touring Car Festival to Scotland’s national circuit, with many of the most iconic racing cars from the 1990s taking to the track.

Last year’s event saw touring car stars including John Cleland, Frank Biela and Gabriele Tarquini thrill fans as they went wheel to wheel in the cars they piloted in the 1990s.

Alongside the likes of the Audi A4, Vauxhall Vectra and Nissan Primera the ferocious Group A Sierras from the 1980s lit up the track.

Stuart Gray, events director at Knockhill, commented: “The David Leslie Super Touring Car Festival in 2017 was voted one of the best events of the season and 2018 sees its welcome return.

“The return of these iconic Super Touring thoroughbreds proved a great hit as we welcomed Gabriele Tarquini, John Cleland and Frank Biela back to Knockhill together with their legendary race cars.

“What makes this event even more special is that the STCC runs touring cars from the 80s and 90s, with the Super Tourers headlining the grid, so we hope to have the thunderous Group A Sierras and of course the 2.0-litre BTCC cars from ’92 onwards on the grid.

“If last year’s action and drama was anything to go by, we are in for another treat.”

There’s on-track action all weekend, with racing on Saturday and Sunday.

The following weekend Knockhill is hosting its World of Supercars show, featuring more than 200 of the most exotic cars on the roads.

And on August 25/26 the current crop of BTTC stars will be making their annual appewarance in Fife.
