Mccann Nabs new midfield man with a killer touch

- By JAMES LITTLE

Neil Mccann expects new signing Adil Nabi to offer extra quality in the final third after signing him on a short-term deal.

Dundee agreed an initial six-month contract with the former West Brom midfielder, who impressed on trial in pre-season.

The 24-year-old, whose last role was with Nuneaton in England, offers an attacking reinforcement for Mccann, who has been seeking further goalscoring options since the end of the season.

“I am pleased Adil has signed initially on a shortterm contract with the view of an extension at a later date,” he said. “I have had plenty of time to look at him.

“He joined us in Portugal but picked up a little injury that curtailed his involvement but I saw enough to extend it.

“He is a player that can open things in the final third, has an eye for a killer pass in the final third and is a very good finisher.

“There were a lot of issues with our goalscoring last year [Dundee scored only 36 goals in the league] and I want to address that with a striker but also in midfield areas.

“Nabs gives us a real threat from those positions.”

Meanwhile Alan Stubbs, managerofnewly-promoted St Mirren, has set his heights higher than simply avoiding the drop.

He said: “I don’t really want to talk about staying in the league because I don’t think that is the right thing to talk about. I want to talk about having a really exciting season.

“We are looking ahead rather than behind and I want people, come the end of the season, to talk about how well we have done in our first season.

“I don’t want to talk about anything negative, we need to be positive.

“We need to know what we are good at and what we need to do to pick up as many points as we possibly can and try and cement ourselves right in the middle of that table.”
