Holyrood inquiry into soaring cost of school music tuition needed ‘without delay’
An urgent review is being called for at Holyrood to address the soaring rise in school music tuition costs across Scotland which is leaving many youngsters frozen out from taking up an instrument.
The Scottish Parliament’s education committee is being urged to lead an investigation into the situation which has also seen the numbers of instrumental teachers fall by a third since 2007.
Teaching representatives have warned of a “postcode lottery” of who is entitled to lessons with an annual charge of over £500 meaning pupils simply cannot afford to take up an instrument.
