Double win for women over Wales

-

There were mixed results for Scotland’s development squad against Wales at Wrexham, with the women taking pride of place after completing the double over their hosts, writes Craig Madden.

The Scots dominated the first encounter and raced into a 4-1 lead with goals from Cat Booth, Millie Steiger, Ellie Halliday and Jenny Walls before Wales got a late consolation for a final 4-2 result.

Wales started the second match with a penalty-corner opening goal, but Dundee Wanderers’ striker Emily Dark replied with a powerful flick at another set piece. By half-time the Scots had nosed in front, Hanna Mckie thrashing the ball into the roof of the net for a 2-1 lead.

The Scots controlled the second half and Dark added a third with another penalty-corner strike.

The men were not so successful, although they held Wales to a goalless draw in their first match.

In the second game the Scots led 2-1 through Jack Mcallister and Jack Jamieson but Wales finished strongly to edge it 3-2.
