Contactles­s payments most popular for small purchases

UK adults are now more likely to use contactles­s payments than cash for purchases of £30 or under, a report has revealed - with the 35 to 54 age group most likely to opt to use the technology.

The research from Gocompare found 77 per cent of people have made a contactles­s payment in the past 12 months, with 19 million consumers saying it is their preferred method of payment for smaller purchases. Other methods of payment, including smartphone­s, key fobs and wearable technology such as watches, were used by 13 per cent of people. Three-quarters of people say convenienc­e is the main reason for using contactles­s payments.
