Cycling project for kids gets grant boost

A scheme aimed at pro - viding cycling lessons for ever y nurser y-aged child in Scotland is to be rolled out nationwide following a funding boost.

Play On Pedals, piloted in Glasgow in 2014, saw nurser y and early years teachers trained in giving youngsters lessons on how to ride a bike and bicycle maintenanc­e in a bid to promote a healthy lifestyle and increase sustainabl­e transport in the future.

Now Scottish Government funding of £81,000 will see more teachers introduced to the project –and thousands more youngsters given access to trained cycling teachers before they start school.

Suzanne Forup, head of developmen­t Scotland at Cycling UK, said: “It’s really important that children have the opportunit­y to learn to ride from a young age.”
