Cycling project for kids gets grant boost
A scheme aimed at pro - viding cycling lessons for ever y nurser y-aged child in Scotland is to be rolled out nationwide following a funding boost.
Play On Pedals, piloted in Glasgow in 2014, saw nurser y and early years teachers trained in giving youngsters lessons on how to ride a bike and bicycle maintenance in a bid to promote a healthy lifestyle and increase sustainable transport in the future.
Now Scottish Government funding of £81,000 will see more teachers introduced to the project –and thousands more youngsters given access to trained cycling teachers before they start school.
Suzanne Forup, head of development Scotland at Cycling UK, said: “It’s really important that children have the opportunity to learn to ride from a young age.”
