pedestrianised for decades with nothing but benefits. You should go for a walk, it does wonders.

Sergio Leitao In 1999 there were 2,000,000 cars in Scotland. As of this year we hit 3,000,000. This is the fastest growth of autos in the whole of the UK. Our roads simply can’t handle it and there’s no room in Edinburgh or Glasgow for this huge growth. What do you expect the government to do exactly? Our roads in Edinburgh are a misery. We have the slowest mph in THE WHOLE OF THE UK here. It isn’t cyclist’s fault, it isn’t pedestrians, it isn’t planning – it’s our fault for buying so many cars with many households of four that have a car per person which is simply ridiculous when there’s also access to nearby public transport. It’s a blessing to those that actually spend time in Edinburgh and live here that the streets should be pedestrianised. We’re tired of the smog, we’re tired of hearing constant noise from the horns when you get frustrated because of the constant tailbacks and we’re tired of the neverending stream of autos.

Maybe it’s time to ask government and councils to start build up new roads?

Olaf Balwan

You’re so right. If we knock down all of Princes Street and a few other streets, we can get more roads and parking in the town centre. In fact, we should build a motorway and giant car park in the centre. You’re not getting the point are you?

John Michael Hunt Edinburgh City Council has been gradually penalising us for voting against the congestion charge all those years ago. They have been slowly implementing David Begg’s transport plan of road closures, one-way systems, increasing the parking zones and now pedestrianising key Edinburgh streets. Their war with car drivers doesn’t seem to be ending any time soon.

Graeme Mclachlan In a day and age when folk will not get out of their cars (drive throughs, parking right outside shops, going half mile journeys, etc ) unless they have to, this will shake things up a bit. .
