- By IAIN FERGUSON

A charity is on to a real winner tonight with Ayr donating all admission money from their evening meeting to Ayrshire Cancer Support.

The charit y will receive all of the £15 p er p erson ticket fee from the racenight named in their honour as part of the ongoing partnership between the course and Ayrshire Cancer Support.

Sandra Mccall, chief executive of ACS, said: “It’s an hono u r a n d a p r iv i l e g e f o r o u r organisation to be recognised as Ayr Racecourse and Weste r n House’s o ff ic i a l c ha r i t y par tner and we are delighted, on behalf of every person in Ayrshire affected by cancer, to be the recipient of vital funds, raised to deliver services throughout Ayrshire.”

D a v i d B r o w n , m a n a g i n g director of Ayr R acecourse, said: “I am delig hted to say a l l t i c k e t m o n i e s f r o m t h e racenight will go directly to the charit y. This is the latest fundraiser as part of our partnership with Ayrshire Cancer Support and we are hoping for a big turnout so we can raise a substantial amount of money.”

There are seven races on the card, with the op ening Ayrshire Cancer Support Novice Auction Stakes off at 5.40pm and eight runners go to post in what looks a tricky heat. Top weight here is Fognini from the Newmarket yard of Archie Watson, with Danny Tudhope taking the mount. This horse won at Yarmouth recently and could be hard to beat.

The feature race is the Fundraising Ideas At ayrshirecs.org Handicap over seven furlongs a n d t h e p o we r f u l R i c h a r d Fahey-paul Hanagan trainer jockey combination team up here with Equitant, a winner at Carlisle last month.

M e a n w h i l e , S t o u t s t a y e r Stormin Tom looks the one to be with at Catterick. Tim Easterby’s six-year-old has already had a fine season, even if his consistent effor ts might not have yielded warranted success, writes Glendale.

And there are sound enough reasons to suggest he can poke his nose in front for a second time in 2018 when he takes the plunge in the Racing UKsp onsored handicap over a mile and three-quarters.
