My festival Ofa Fotu

Ionlyhavetimetoseeone show in Edinburgh. Why should I choose Hot Brown Honey?

Because, as an audience member, you love theatrical explosions at the intersection that defy genres, make you laugh until you cry, make you integrate your perceptions, poke fun at social structures all the while shaking every part of what your Mamma gave you! Hot Brown Honey invites you to be a part of the creative revolution and that is irresistible!

Now I think of it, I’ve got time to see two. What else should I definitely go to? Briefs: Close Encounters will blow your mind! They’ve come from the future to test the limits of masculinity! Boom! Check out Koko Brown’s show White too. Koko was a part of Hive City Legacy where the Hot Brown Honeys created a production with Femmes of Colour from London. Koko is an incredible artist!

What are the best and worst things that have happened to you at the Edinburgh Festival?

The best thing that has happened is the response to Hot Brown Honey. It has been really exciting and at times overwhelming! Edinburgh Festival is the world stage. We wanted to know if putting our stories centre stage was something global audiences where interested in. Guess what? People are really up for making noise with us!

Please describe where you’re living this month. Nestival have put us up in a lovely spot across the Meadows which is perfectly located so we can visit Finn aka the most beautiful dog in the world. Seeing this pup is a part of the HBH daily selfcare routine.

What’s your favourite place in the city and why? It’s hard to say one place. Hot Brown Honey have a real soft spot for Edinburgh – the city, the landscape and the people. Looking up and seeing the power of Arthur’s Seat as a backdrop to the city is always breath-taking; and you won’t get banter like you do in Dùn Èideann. Honest, blunt and hilarious. So pretty much a fav place all round!

Who do you most like spending time with at the festival?

The Artists Of Colour Meet Up where we come together and provide support for each other. This usually involves a lot of laughing too!

Where can I find you at 9am, 9pm and 2am? 9am – in bed.

9pm – On stage. 2am – On dance floor.

Tell us something about you that would surprise people.

I woke up like this. No filter. Drink it in.

What’s the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?

Do my hair. If my hair had a volume setting it would be 11/10. The bigger the better.

What’s the last thing you do before you go to bed at night? I think about how we are the latest models of our ancestry. I think about my ancestors that came before me. I think about all the people I miss and love back home and how every single moment is our opportunity to make a change, no matter how big or small, to make this world a better place.

Thanks for the interview! I’d like to buy you a drink. Where are we going and what are we drinking?

At either the Panda & Sons Bar on Queen Street or Gilded Balloon’s Saloon. Scotch is my favourite, although sometimes a nice, hot, strong tea is all you need.
