#BORISJOHNSON

Ruth Davidson has backed calls for Boris Johnson to apologise over his “gratuitously offensive” comments on the burka. The Scottish Conservative leader said she believes the former foreign secretary should say sorry for comparing women wearing face-covering veils to bank robbers and letter boxes.

@C4ciaran said: “Boris Johnson’s next column will presumably demand that females be admitted to Eton College and the Bullingdon Club?”

@Londondynaslow offered: “If @Borisjohnson is not at least suspended while disciplinary procedures consider his expulsion then we will all know @theresa_ may is weak and has lost control of @Conservatives”

@adampayne26 added: “Dominic Grieve totally scathing on ‘very embarrassing’ Boris Johnson just now. ‘If he was to become leader of the party, I won’t be in it,’ he told #WATO. “It may make good journalism, but it doesn’t make a good member of parliament or a good minister’.”

@afuahirsch commented: “If a Labour politician insulted Jewish religious dress, which of these Boris apologists would call it ‘healthy debate’. I have been calling out antisemitism in Labour, its time we took same approach to the frightening Islamophobia and racism in the Conservative Party”

#EUROROAD18

Elite cyclists from across the continent were once again racing through the streets of Glasgow yesterday, with the men’s and women’s time trial events taking place as part of the European Championship being held in the city.

@Dmcgconcal observed: “I nipped out in my lunch break to watch some of #Euroroad18 going past the top of the road - having a motorbike outrider and a support vehicle is certainly one way to make cycling feel safer in Glasgow”

@djhenshall said: “What a fantastic day in Glasgow watching the women’s road race. And Glasgow turning out in numbers to support them. More of that please”

@Gradysnp offered: “Fantastic atmosphere on Byres Road for Glasgow 2018 Time Trial. Congrats to everyone taking part”

@marc_sergeant said: “Yes, he did it again! Big congrats to Victor Campenaerts, European Champion 2018 #Euroroad18 always looking to find some seconds, and it pays off.”
