More Aulds shops close in bid to stem bakery chain’s losses

- By PERRY GOURLEY

A further four Aulds bakery shops have been closed with the loss of 23 jobs as liquidators handling the business look to reduce losses.

The stores – in Princes Mall, East Kilbride, High Street in Lanark, Union Street in Larkhall and Almondvale South in Livingston – all ceased trading yesterday following the earlier closure of four other shops after the retail arm of the Aulds bakery group went into liquidation earlier this month.

RSM Restructuring Advisory is still trying to find a buyer for the rest of the business and the 18 remaining shops continue to trade.

Paul Dounis, joint liquidator of RSM, said: “Regrettably, we have had to close a further four stores to reduce losses which has resulted in a further 23 employees being made redundant.”

He said the firm was working with local and national organisations to support employees to process redundancy claims.

The liquidation does not impact on the group’s three other subsidiary companies, Aulds Bakeries Limited and Auld the Bakers Limited – which manufacture fresh and frozen bakery products at the firm’s Greenock site – and Aulds Delicious Desserts, which has a manufacturing facility at Inchinnan.

The retail arm, which had been hit by rising costs and competition, was placed into liquidation to safeguard the rest of the group and its 200 employees. 0 Still looking for a buyer – joint liquidator Paul Dounis
