-

Volkswagen has announced that it is expanding its vanbased camper offering with an all-new Grand California. Sitting above the Transporter based California, the Grand California is based on the larger Crafter van.

As befits a van in the sixmetre class of camper the Grand California mimics many of the California’s features but with more space and added facilities, including its own bathroom.

The neat space features a toilet, fold-out wash basin, shelves, cupboards and towel holders. There’s even an external connection for hooking up a shower, complete with adjustable temperature.

The Grand California is fitted with swivel seats at the front and a double bench seat in the living area. A large dining table provides room for four people to sit down to eat together. The kitchen fittings include a pull-out 70-litre fridge with freezer compartment (accessible from outside as well as via the sliding door), a twin-hob gas cooker, a sink, cabinets and tip-up shelves.

External lighting above the the sliding door, an in-built mosquito net, gas heating system and Bluetooth speaker control are also part of the standard specification.

Drivetrain, launch and pricing details have yet to be announced but VW has confirmed that the Grand California will be available as a four-wheel-drive model using the company’s 4Motion system.
