Locals express doubts over Jenners’ future

- By FIONA PRINGLE

The Scotsman took to the streets of Edinburgh to ask locals and visitors what they hoped for the future of Jenners department store. Steph Coe, Haymarket, Edinburgh: “The reason people go there is because of the building or the tree at Christmas. I genuinely wouldn’t go there to shop. I just don’t see it as a retail unit in the future. I could imagine it as a hotel. It’s too big for a retail space.” Angela Fiske, Dalgety Bay, Fife: “It’s such a beautiful building and beautiful space and because they didn’t have the money to maintain it, it’s an absolute shame.” Nick Heslop, Edinburgh: “Bring in some different things that we are missing in the city. As long as it’s not a Sports Direct I don’t care. Bring in something that we are missing. Laura Galloway, Edinburgh: “I can’t see the future for it as retail. Unless a big name comes in – something like Selfridges or Harrods with an impressive food court.” Iwona Wolinska, Edinburgh: “I don’t think it could stay retail unless we could see some brands come in that we don’t have here. Like a proper Mango or a Bershka.”
