Janeane Garofalo: Put A Pin In That

Gilded Balloon Teviot (Venue 14) Even flailing around, Janeane Garofalo is relatively entertaining. But while attention deficit disorder perhaps explains her scatterbrained tendencies, and her show’s title is an appeal to bring her back to subjects she’s forgotten, this is a truly maddening hour for anyone not living inside her brain.

Her cultural references are all either local to her Edinburgh experience, American on a broad spectrum of obscurity or daytime UK television, alienating huge swathes of the international crowd at any one time. Blithely assuming familiarity or distracted when offering context, she’s not apologetic enough for this hopelessly work-in-progress effort.
