Laura Muir strikes gold on final day of European Championsh­ips

- 2 In a great day for Scottish athletes at the European Championsh­ips yesterday Laura Muir became the first British woman to win the 1,500m title while Eilish Mccolgan, inset, won silver in the 5,000m.

Laura Muir enjoyed the breakthrou­gh of a first major outdoor title gaining 1,500m gold on a glorious night for Scottish athletics in Berlin, that also saw Eilish Mccolgan win a silver medal in a remarkable 5,000m. It was the perfect end to the season for Muir, who also qualified as a vet after her final exams.
