Not our unicorn

-

David Gerrard (Letters, 13 August) objects to the idea of a monumental unicorn on Cramond island. I like unicorns but wondered about the picture you showed with “Scotland needs a Giant Unicorn statue (11, August). This appears to be a horse with a spike on its head. Our Scottish heraldic unicorns are more graceful creatures with cloven feet, similar to those of a deer, rather than horses’ hooves.

DAVID STEVENSON Blacket Place, Edinburgh

David Gerrard decries the idea of a unicorn on Cramond Island as Disneyland-ish. I don’t get the point of the unicorn but there is nothing wrong with thinking along Disneyland-ish lines.

It is generally acknowledged that Treasure Island was inspired by Cramond Island so it would be the perfect location for a Robert Louis Stevenson theme park.

What an attraction that could turn out to be. It would certainly happen in America. BILL DREW
