Jobs joy

-

The number of Scots out of work has fallen and the jobless total across the UK reached a 40-year low as EU workers return home, official figures show.

Maybe experienced Eastern European workers, who have been taking entry level jobs, have found better opportunities back home and so freed up opportunities for Scottish school and college leavers to get on the jobs ladder? Could be a bit of a win win... early days though.

Freewheel With the exchange rate dropping and wage growth the lowest in the G20, it’s not surprising there are better opportunities elsewhere in the EU.

Finn Mccolgan So they win, and our own unemployed win. Where’s the problem?

Paul Holyrood The problem appears to be with the berry growers in Perthshire who cannot depend on the cheap Eastern European labour any more...

Finn Mccolgan Pleasing to see such wonderful news has not been accompanied by the suffix normally associated with positive news, that being “despite Brexit”.

Arch Stainton Now we have to train our young in wanted trades. It may be time to reduce the focus on the soft university degrees.

Gavin Beattie Proof if ever it was needed that foreign workers have been taking jobs from British people. Brexit can only be good news for those seeking work.

Aristotle Or employers know they can pay foreign workers less and so don’t attract the natives. Whatever the reason, it’s good news. Now what we should do is sanction the lazy who don’t want to work

lux_1 I certainly don’t want to see all EU nationals depart and hope many will stay and make their home here, all the EU nationals I know are gainfully employed and contribute. But the fact more Scots are getting into employment must surely be viewed as good news irrespective of your view of Brexit.

City Loon Okay, this is all fantastic news and well done the UK Government in getting us all back on our feet. Unemployment down, particularly amongst our own indigenous people, is great news.
