Vicar and curate in adulterous affair

A vicar and his curate who had an adulterous affair have resigned from their posts after they were suspended from public ministry.

The Rev Rupert Kalus, of Lanchester and Burnhope Benefice, and the Rev Ali Miller were both married when they started the affair, which has now ended, a Diocese of Durham spokesman said.

The Bishop of Durham, the Right Rev Paul Butler, broke the news to parishioners on Sunday. Both the vicar and the curate have been suspended from public ministry.
