My festival

-

I only have time to see one show in Edinburgh. Why should I go to yours?

I really trust that if you like comedy and have a heart and a brain you’ll find something you like from me here.

I finally got confident in myself as a comedian this year and, as it coincided with my life falling apart, it seemed like the time to turn up the dial and turn something awful into something beautiful. I am so proud of this show.

Now I think of it, I’ve got time to see two. What else should I definitely go to? Oh! Please would you go and see Garrett Millerick for me?

He’s doing a show called Sunflower and I think he’s a powerful writer and performer who consistently develops stupendous ideas into such creative stand-up. What are the best and worst things that have happened to you at the Edinburgh festival?

The worst thing… 2012 I did a show where the entrance was down an alleyway and on day three of the festival a poo turned up in this alleyway. A human poo. A massive, stomachchurning absolute beastly renegade of a poo. That poo stayed for the entire festival getting worse and warmer and wider with whatever weather fell on it. Yeah, that was the worst.

The best… huh, God there are so many. The one that stands out is standing in the wings for my very first solo show and hearing the door staff say “House is open for Laura Lexx” and knowing for the first time people had come just for me. They both really enjoyed it.
