Tributes continued to pour in for Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin.

● Former US president Bill Clinton and wife Hillary said: “For more than 50 years, she stirred our souls. She was elegant, graceful, and utterly uncompromi­sing in her artistry.”

● Scots singer Annie Lennox wrote: “As the One and Only ‘Queen of Soul’ Aretha Franklin was simply peerless. She has reigned supreme. And will always be held in the highest firmament of stars as the most exceptiona­l vocalist, performer and recording artist the world has ever been privileged to witness.” Franklin duetted with Lennox’s band the Eurythmics on the 1985 hit Sisters Are Doin’ It For Themselves.

● Sir Mick Jagger said: “Very sad to hear the news about Aretha, she was so inspiring and wherever you were she always brought you to church.”

● Sir Paul Mccartney asked for fans to take a moment to “give thanks to the beautiful life of Aretha Franklin”.
