Student nurse’s shock at liver diagnosis
Kara Watt, 21, a student nurse from Drongan, East Ayrshire, was on a placement at a care home at the beginning of September 2016 when she felt sick and her face developed a yellow tinge.
Ms Watt’s tests revealed a liver malfunction and she was admitted to intensive care at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. After a five-day wait she received a liver transplant.
Ms Watt, who has completed her second year at the University of the West of Scotland, said: “I was in totally perfect health up until then. I went to my bed one night and woke up in the morning feeling terrible.
“The medical team was fantastic. But one thing that angers me is when people say those having liver transplants are into drink and drugs. That’s not the majority.”
