Pro-independence activists are demanding Nicola Sturgeon “use the mandate” at the SNP autumn conference to call for a second referendum. A fringe group, Scotland Land of the Brave Saor Alba, has shared an invite with its followers to attend the party’s showpiece event in October at the Glasgow SEC with the hashtag #Usethemandate.

The Unionist parties outnumber the SNP in Holyrood. No mandate. Scotland has more than our fair share of Westminster MPS: that’s how ‘unfair’ the Union is.

There’s no overwhelming demand from the people of Scotland for another referendum. The 2014 Scotland independence referendum result does not mean the losing side have to accept that the campaign for Scotland’s independence has been shut down forever. They are perfectly entitled to continue to argue for independence and to try and overturn the 2014 result.
