Tributes were paid to legendary Scottish folk-rock band Runrig, who brought the curtain down on a stellar 45-year career with a pair of farewell shows at Stirling Castle this weekend.
@Childofalba recalled: “I remember a Scottish wedding wasn’t a Scottish wedding until you’d belted out Runrig’s version of Loch Lomond on the dance floor at the end of the evening.”
@Fionahyslop posted: “To Runrig - from the beginning to #Thelastdance you have made an enormous contribution to the cultural life and soul of Scotland, placing Gaelic at the heart of modern music for a generation who will forever thank you.”
@Kilted_guide noted: “At last night’s Runrig concert it was announced that the Skye v Kingussie shinty match that day was postponed to allow the teams to go to the concert. Demonstrates how strongly this band is associated with the Gael.”
@Simonjcurran added: “Tonight Runrig played their last ever gig. Our lives begin to end when we don’t speak of what matters. Thank you Runrig for singing about what matters over the last 45 years.”

Rangers’ good start to the season continued as they swept aside Kilmarnock to book a place in the last eight of the Betfred Cup.
@Bet365 reported: “Rangers have played 810 minutes of competitive football under Steven Gerrard. They’ve played in the Europa League, Scottish Premiership & League Cup including 5 away games. They’ve had men sent off early in two different games. They haven’t been behind for a single second.”
@Mrewanmurray tweeted: “Steven Gerrard careful not to ‘disrespect’ Kilmarnock’s pitch. Adds: ‘My opinion is elite football shouldn’t be on plastic pitches.’ And he is of course 100% right.”
@Bootyourball added: “Comfortable win for Rangers in the end. Morelos looking much sharper! Best team won and another cracking win for Steven Gerrard’s side.”
@Benwardell opined: “Steven Gerrard has made Alfredo Morelos a goal machine and that itself is the biggest achievement in his career.”
