Six-goal City hit summit

-

Glasgow City moved back ahead of Hibernian at the top of SBS SWPL1 after beating Forfar Farmington 6-0 at Petershill Park. The Edinburgh side also won, although only 2-0 against bottom club Spartans at Ainslie Park.

Both the leaders have 41 points, but after starting the day with a goal difference advantage of one, Hibs ended it three in arrears. Abi Harrison and Emma Brownlie got their goals.

City head coach Scott Booth said his side’s second-half performance satisfied him more than returning to the top of the table after watching his players fail to capitalise on their superiority in the first 45 minutes. This was despite being gifted an early goal when Forfar’s Cassie Cowper deflected a shot past her own keeper. It remained 1-0 at half-time, but a flurry of goals after the break ensured City overtook Hibs at the top. Jo Love (2), Kirsty Howat and Nicola Docherty got the goals, with skipper Leanne Ross making it 6-0 from the spot near the end.

“I’m just happy that the players went out and did the business really early in the second half – because the first half was really frustrating,” Booth said. “We created so many oppportunities and didn’t take them.”

Celtic moved five points ahead of Forfar in third place following a 4-1 win at home to Hamilton Accies. Rangers stay in fifth despite losing 3-2 at home to Stirling University.
