Cracking the code: Rare Second World War Enigma machine set to go under the hammer
An original Heinsoeth und Rinke three-rotor Enigma enciphering machine, used by the Nazis to communicate in secret during the Second World War, may fetch up to £150,000 when it is put up for auction next month. The device encrypted plain text messages which were then relayed to German forces via Morse code. It is thought to be one of just 40 surviving examples.
