Rohingya refugees are lacking aid, says Oxfam

- By ANDY GREGORY

Female Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh are lacking vital aid and should have their own stand-alone aid budget, Oxfam have cautioned.

The charity has said unsafe facilities in the world’s largest refugee camp are placing Rohingya women at greater risk of abuse and developing health problems.

Oxfam has advised 15 per cent of new funding – about £56 million of the pot pledged by the World Bank – should be set aside for providing humanitarian aid to women and girls.

Hundreds of violent incidents against women are reported each week.

Oxfam’s Dorothy Sang said:“thebreakneckspeed at which the Rohingya refugee crisis unfolded meant many emergency facilities were installed in a rush and women’s specific needs weren’t considered.”
