Total pulls out of Iran

French oil giant Total has officially pulled out of Iran after cancelling its $5 billion (£3.9bn), 20-year agreement to develop the country’s South Pars offshore natural gas field, following renewed US sanctions.

The US sanctions took effect in August after president Donald Trump pulled out of the nuclear deal between the two countries. The reinstatement has exacerbated a financial crisis in Iran.
