Brewer aims to launch disabledfriendly site

- By EMMA NEWLANDS

A Glasgow brewery has announced plans to start a crowdfunded social enterprise dedicated to creating what it says is a Scottish first, a taproom and event space totally accessible for people with disabilities.

The project, dubbed The Glasgow Brewery Collective, will see Ride Brew Co move to a bigger site in the south side of Glasgow, and aims to create jobs for people with disabilities struggling to get into work.

It was conceived by Dave Lannigan, head brewer and founder of Ride Brew Co, who is officially disabled through loss of hearing and has ADHD and dyslexia. He said: “I’m keen to do something to help people in a similar situation to me find meaningful employment.”

To do this the brewery will be joined by other local breweries to help get the project off the ground.

Lannigan added that external funds will be needed. “We’re asking the general public to become a part of our ambition. We still have some groundwork to do, but we’ll be starting a crowdfunding campaign very soon”.
