A new Beltex breed record price was made by Wigtownshi­re breeders, Neal and Janet Mcquistin when their Airyolland Castro sold for 65,000 gns at Friday’s breed sale at Borderway Mart, Carlisle.

Marking the farm’s 20th year of breeding Beltex, the Airyolland flock’s pen of ten shearlings averaged £96,285. The Airyolland Asulam-sired record breaker came from a long line of home bred rams and sold to Paul and Christine Tippetts (Hackney and Wilodge).

A total of 708 shearling rams were sold at the sale to average £1,211.81 (£14.11 down on the year).
