Saints eyeing Miller move

-

JOHN WARD, DIRECTOR of weeks ago, it’s another unsatisfying, and contentious, exit.

Speaking in The Scotsman on Saturday, he asked to be treated with respect and expected to be judged by the high standards he has set in his own career.

“People in football know me and what I’m about, I’m sure of that,” he said, in reference to reports he can be a disruptive influence. “And you can ask my players at Livi how I’m trying to go about the business of being a manager and hopefully they’ll tell you I’m really, really big on honesty. I was like that before, even more so now given what’s happened over the last few months. A manager should treat his players and staff the right way, with respect and on a human level.”

It wouldn’t surprise anyone if he ended up pulling on the shirt of another Premiership team this weekend. There’s talk of St Mirren being interested in signing him as a player. They were certainly keen prior to Miller opting for what looks increasingly like a poisoned chalice in West Lothian. Who do Alan Stubbs’ side play on Saturday? Livingston. 2 All seemed well at Livingston when player/manager Kenny Miller carried out an in-depth interview with The Scotsman only a few days ago. The former Rangers and Hibs striker played for Livingston in their 1-0 Betfred Cup defeat by Motherwell on Saturday, below, but made a surprise and mysterious exit from the club only 24 hours later. St Mirren could make a move for Kenny Miller following his Livingston exit.

The Paisley side, who yesterday signed Rangers defender Lee Hodson on a season-long loan deal, are interested in talking to the 38-year-old following his surprise departure from Almondvale.

Livingston said yesterday that the player-manager had parted company with the club after he refused to give up his on-field duties. He could now resume his playing career with St Mirren, who are keen to hold discussions.

Full-back Hodson, meanwhile, has moved to the Saints after finding himself surplus to requirements under new Rangers manager Steven Gerrard.

The versatile former Kilmarnock and MK Dons defender can operate on both flanks. Hodson was signed by former Rangers boss Mark Warburton back in 2016.

Jim Duffy

Sacked (harshly) by Morton in April having failed to secure the Championship promotion play-off spot the club so desperately craved, Duffy’s four-year tenure as manager at Cappielow was largely impressive. He actually led club to the play-offs the season before last and was even named Ladbrokes Championship manager of the season in 2017.

“We did not say he had to stop playing. The discussion was whether the balance was right, he is playing every game, every minute.”
