Hostelworld hit by hot summer

Online booking site Hostelworld has seen shares slump as it warned of a hit to bookings after the World Cup and summer heatwave across Europe dented demand.

New boss Gary Morrison said the site was keeping “rigorous” control on costs to offset the lower number of the bookings, warning they could remain flat on a like-for-like basis over the full year if trading trends continue.
