My festival Larry Dean

-

Ionlyhavetimetoseeone show in Edinburgh. Why should I go to yours?

You can only see one show and you’re actually going to see me? Don’t be daft. Go see ma pal Steve Bugeja, or Matt Price, or Catherine Bohart, or the guy on the Royal Mile dressed as a Roman soldier. Go see him, I think he needs a friend.

Now I think of it, I’ve got time to see two. What else should I definitely go to? Me! Me! Come and see meeeee! For the love of God, please! I spent waaay too much money on this Roman soldier suit!

What are the best and worst things that have happened to you at the Edinburgh festival?

Being nominated for Best Newcomer a few year ago was amazing. I was so worried that I’d been a disappointment so the feeling of relief was fantastic.

Worst thing has to be the time an agent came to see me, when I had no money and I was performing in a tent, only to have some random guy who’d seen my set before sit at the front and shout out all my punchlines.

Please describe where you’re living this month. I’m living in a lovely flat with friends. Though they hate taking the bins out for some reason, so we have a mouse problem. On the bright side, I learned that the word “mouse” is pronounced the same in Danish as it is in Scottish – “Ahhh mooos!”

What’s your favourite place in the city and why?

I love, love, love Arthur’s Seat. The view from the top and the sense of achievement once you’ve climbed it are fantastic. Unfortunately, I don’t have the time or energy to get up there too often. It should be lowered and moved closer.

Who do you most like spending time with at the festival?

Sofie Hagen. We’ve lived together up here for the past few festivals. Though I’m worried that this mooos is coming between us. Where can I find you at 9am, 9pm and 2am? 9am: still in ma bed 9pm: doing a gig, thinking about ma bed

2am: watching TV in bed with ma main man the mooos.

Tell us something about you that would surprise people.

I can speak some basic Urdu and Farsi. I’ve got family from Tehran so it’s good to know what they’re talking about when they’re pointing at me. I’m also paranoid.

What’s the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?

Begin negotiations with Sofie and the mooos to decide who gets the shower first.

What’s the last thing you do before you go to bed at night?

Text my mate Chris Quaile to check he’s okay. He’s under a lot of stress. If you see him please ask him if he’s okay. He’ll appreciate that.

Thanks for the interview! I’d like to buy you a drink. Where are we going and what are we drinking? Let’s go the park and have an old recipe Irn Bru I bought off ebay.
