Sindhu Vee: Sandhog

- KATE COPSTICK

Pleasance Courtyard (Venue 33)

Sindhu Vee is one of the classiest performers you will see. For an hour she entertains us with one of the most tightly focused shows on the Fringe. Not one gratuitous joke is to be found in the entire hour. Sindhu is talking about marriage. And her own marriage in particular. It is a down to earth, charming and honest show which shies away from nothing – neither the romantic highs, nor the irritating lows. It is possibly the fullest and most captivating exploration of marriage you will ever see in the genre.

Her husband is Danish – much grist to her comedy mill – and from the story of how they met to his problems with her Nicorette gum, the relationship is the heart of the show. Sindhu herself is a wonderful performer – she is elegant and measured in her delivery, whether talking about meeting “the one”, explaining the idiosyncrasies of Indian parenting methods, sharing hideous tales of vomiting children or surprising the room with a moment about great grannies that I do not think any of us was expecting. If you are married you really should see this show, if you are not, it is a great way to find out what it is like without having to buy a frock.

Until 26 August. Today 4:30pm.
