Son tried to save crofter killed in baler accident

-

A father of three has died in an accident after he became trapped in a piece of farm machinery.

Allan Maccallum, 46, was on the family croft on the isle of Tiree with two of his sons, Sean, 22, and Bradley, 13, when the tragedy occurred on Saturday night.

His son Sean said yesterday that he had tried in vain to free his father from the baler, which had only been delivered that morning. Mr Maccallum had been examining his new purchase, which was an attachment for the croft tractor, when the accident happened.
