Blue Toon remain top and keep Albion pointless

- By CRAIG P STEWART

Peterhead kept their place at the top of the table thanks to a 2-0 victory over Stirling Albion who have yet to pick up a point.

The Balmoor visitors took the lead right on half-time when Jamie Stevenson curled home a 20-yard free kick and Rory Mcallister sealed the win when he ran clear on 64 minutes.

Manager Jim Mcinally is delighted to be ten points ahead of the Forthbank side. He said: “It was a good win against a team that will come good. They are in a false position so to have such a big advantage is good going.”

Home manager Dave Mackay said: “We had players back from injury and we put in an improved performance. Things will turn for us, I am sure of that.”

Annan are level on points at the top following their 3-0 win at Berwick Rangers, where Aidan Smith, pictured, opened the scoring on eight minutes after running on to a long clearance from goalkeeper Alex Mitchell.

Tommy Muir nodded in a Tony Wallace free-kick just after the hour and David Wilson curling in a free-kick in injury time.

Edinburgh City are one point behind the leading duo folowing a 2-0 win at Clyde. Scott Shepherd drilled home a Blair Henderson pass on 61 minutes to open the scoring and Henderson dummied his way into the Clyde box before cracking a shot past Blair Currie 11 minutes later. The Bully Wee, who were missing star striker David Goodwillie as his wife was in labour, failed to carve out any openings as they looked to get back into the game.

Queen’s Park defeated bottom of the table Albion Rovers – who have yet to score a goal – 2-0 at Hampden with Kurtis Roberts and Billy Mortimer scoring in the first half.

Rovers’ Barry Eley was dismissed early in the second half but Scott Gibson missed the resultant penalty.
