● Buckie: The Moray coastal town was among the locations deployed for Tutti Frutti, John Byrne’s classic comedy drama following the reunion tour of rock ’n’ roll outfit The Majestics.

● Dysart: The picturesqu­e harbour on the Fife coastline stood in for the French port of Le Havre for scenes set in the mid-18th century in the fantasy drama Outlander.

● Luss: The real-life village on the banks of Loch Lomond was used for exterior filming on STV’S long-running soap opera Take the High Road for 23 years.

● Stirling Castle: The centuries-old landmark stood in as the Renaissanc­e castle in the town of Colditz near Leipzig in Germany in the 1970s prisoner of war drama Colditz.

● Isle of Skye: The Sleat peninsula provides the backdrop for BBC Alba’s flagship Gaelic drama Bannan, which unfolds after a young woman returns to a fictional island after eight years on the mainland.

● Plockton: The Wester Ross village provided the backdrop for Hamish Macbeth, which saw Robert Carlyle play a police officer in the sleepy fictional town of Lochdubh.

● Fort Augustus: The settlement at the south end of Loch Ness was deployed for ITV murder mystery The Loch, which saw Laura Fraser playing a detective trying to unravel a series of murders in the closeknit community.

● Dumbarton: Fans of River City can book a tour of the specially-constructe­d set, complete with four tenement blocks, a pub and a boatyard, where the BBC Scotland drama is made.

● Tarbert: Much of The Crow Road, BBC Scotland’s hugelypopu­lar adaptation of Iain Banks’ best-selling novel, was filmed in the Argyllshir­e village on the west side of Loch Fyne.
