The wedding outfits of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are to go on display in Edinburgh within months.

A special exhibition celebrating the marriage of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will open at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in June, weeks after their first anniversary.

Tourism experts are expecting a dramatic surge in visitors to the Queen’s official residence in Scotland during the five-months show.

It will allow visitors to view up close the ivory gown created for Meghan by British designer Clare Waight Keller, artistic director of French fashion house Givenchy.

At the time of the wedding, Kensington Palace said the duchess had chosen the designer because of her “timeless and elegant aesthetic, impeccable tailoring, and relaxed demeanour,” and also to highlight the success of a leading British designer.

The Royal Collection Trust, which runs the the historic palace at the foot of the Royal Mile as a visitor attraction, said the dress would go on display along with the duchess’s five metre long veil, which was embroidered with the flora of the 53 countries of the Commonwealth, and a tiara which was leant to her by the Queen.

Also on display will be the traditional “Blues and Royals” military uniform of the Household Cavalry regiment which the duke wore when for their wedding at St George’s Chapel, at Windsor Castle.

Ms Keller said at the time: “I aimed for a very modern and fresh design, just like I find Meghan to be, so I really wanted to represent her. I wanted her to feel absolutely incredible in the dress and also wanted her to feel like it was absolutely right for the occasion,

Paula Ward, regional leadership director of national tourism agency Visitscotland, said: “The wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle was a joyous occasion which captured the hearts of Scotland and the rest of the world.

“I’m over the moon to hear that their wedding outfits will be on display at the Palace of Holyroodhouse next year. “Buckingham Palace enjoyed a record year for visitors when Kate Middleton’s dress was displayed there and I hope these remarkable results can be replicated in Scotland’s capital.

Edinburgh’s Lord Provost Frank Ross said: “Prince Harry and Meghan Markle won the city’s hearts when they made their first Scottish public appearance here in Edinburgh. Many also tuned in to watch the Royal Wedding celebrations and admire their big day. The display is sure to have a huge appeal.” 0 The Duke of Sussex’s Blues and Royals dress uniform and his duchess’s wedding gown will go on display at Holyroodhouse
