Save the statues

While the Scottish Government may wish to remove Canada’s First Prime Minister from history with their kneejerk reaction (Letter from Ron Whitehorne, 25 August), a local Vancouver (Edinburgh’s sister city) paper had an 83 per cent response that it was wrong to remove his statue from in front of Victoria’s city hall.

Not all indigenous or first nations people wish his statues removed. It was a different time and place and very few know he wanted to give native people the right to vote but was voted down, long before they were actually allowed to. ALAN J WILLOX
