Villain? Oh no he isn’t!

- Kevin Graham

Panto season came early this year. Dedryck Boyata was cast as the villain. Boo. Hiss. But like all good panto villains he was really a hero all along. Hurrah!

His selection burned the retinas of the traditionalists. The ones who believed that in the good old days managers would have banished him to the reserves and fined him a year’s wages.

The modern reality is that the players have all the power. They are the asset and Boyata is a saleable one. He is also our best centre-half and we don’t have many options in that area.

What is clear is that the players either agreed with or respected the reasons for his actions. They welcomed him back and their enthusiastic response to his goal was sand in the eye of those who wish for simpler times.
