Bates and Ross called into squad

-

Hamburg defender David Bates has been called into the Scotland Under-21s squad.

The former Rangers centre-back replaces John Souttar for the European qualifying double header against Andorra and Holland after the Hearts player was promoted into Alex Mcleish’s full squad.

Frank Ross has also been included after his fellow Aberdeen winger, Scott Wright, pulled out with an ankle injury.

Head coach Scot Gemmill told www.scottishfa.co.uk: “It’s disappointing to have lost Scott but Frank is someone we have had an eye on and who has impressed me with his progression in recent times.

“David is new to the international scene but he showed plenty at Rangers to suggest he will take this in his stride.

“He’s been on our radar for sometime and our team have had great reports on his performances. Initially we were happy to give him the space to settle into his new life in Germany but he’s expressed a real enthusiasm to get involved.”
