Magners core skills project for job success

- By HANNAH BURLEY

A collaborative project run by Magners Irish Cider, Celtic FC Foundation and the Tennent’s Training Academy to help unemployed people into work is returning for its fourth year.

The Magners Employability Programme aims to help people find work in the hospitality industry by teaching them key trade skills.

This year’s project will focus on bar skills, with 12 successful applicants attending a ten-week course at Tennent’s Training Academy, where they will cover the basics of bartending.

By the end of the course, graduates will have gained three qualifications and will be offered employment in the hospitality sector.

The programme, which runs from 12 September, has helped 37 people find work or move into further education since it began. It returns for a fourth year thanks to a £20,000 donation from Magners.

Head of sponsorship at Magners, George Kyle, said: “The skills and confidence gained throughout these sessions are incredibly valuable assets to everyone who gets involved. We are delighted to be able to facilitate this training once again via our donation of £20,000.”

Tony Hamilton, chief executive at Celtic FC Foundation, added: “Since the programme began in 2015, Celtic FC Foundation has been committed to helping people to learn the vital skills required to find employment, and this year is no exception.

“I am looking forward to meeting this year’s intake and would encourage anyone considering entering the bar trade to sign up.” 0 Tennent’s Training Academy’s Gavin Goslan
