Mecca Bingo has announced it has paid out £27 million in prize money to customers in Scotland over the past 12 months.

The bingo club operator, owned by the Rank Group, awarded north-east England and Yorkshire the title of “luckiest region”, after paying out a total of £28.5m in the area, while Scotland followed hot on its heels in second place with £27m.

Mecca’s luckiest clubs list mirrored the regional categories, with Stockton-ontees home to the top place Chandlers Wharf club, which paid out £4.5m, and Glasgow’s Forge shopping centre club paying the second largest sum of £4m.

Aberdeen had the only other Scottish club to make the top ten, sitting in fourth place behind Blackpool with £3.1m in prize money.

Caroline Webb, spokesperson for Mecca Bingo, said: “To pay out more than £27m in prize money to our Scottish customers in just one year is fantastic.

“It’s great to see that so many of our customers experience that all-important winning feeling every single day at each of our venues across the UK.”
