Leisure complex wins Carbuncle

A leisure complex in Greater Manchester has won the dubious accolade of being voted Britain’s worst building.

Redrock Stockport, a £45 million development, has been named winner of the 2018 Carbuncle Cup.

Readers of Building Design (BD) magazine described the complex – which features a cinema, restaurants and bars – as an “absolute monstrosity”.

Judges were left unimpressed by the building’s “awkward form, disjointed massing and superficial decoration”.
