Call to cut dangers on paths shared with bikes
Improved signs to minimise collisions between cyclists and pedestrians on shared paths have been urged by an MSP.
Highlands and Islands Labour MSP David Stewart said: “We need far more blue and white signs and route marking, even a dividing line between pedestrians and walkers.
“However, we could go a step further and consider painting all shared cycle routes on shared footways in urban areas a uniform colour across Scotland.”
The MSP’S move follows an Inside Transport column in The Scotsman suggesting the measures.
A Transport Scotland spokesman said: “We want cyclists and pedestrians to share space with mutual tolerance and respect, and we expect all road users to follow the Highway Code.”
He said it was for councils to decide on signs.
