A different view of an inside out townhouse

-

Adevelopment of three homes by Glencairn Properties is offering a re-imagining of a traditional townhouse on Edinburgh’s Southside.

Glencairn, with Project Architects LBA, won the Innovation by Design award at the 2018 Scottish Home Awards with the fourbedroomed, two-storey properties.

Liberton Tower Mains is in a secluded spot alongside converted B-listed steading buildings and a farmhouse.

Designed by LBA, the new properties have a standing seam metal roof, vertical timber cladding and a wrapping stone wall reusing stone from the site and taking inspiration from the agricultural barn.

The central glazed courtyard cuts through the roof and both floor levels ensuring maximum natural light and ventilation from the centre of each house.

Doors open onto the courtyard at ground floor level and Juliet balconies connect with the courtyard upstairs.

There is smaller private bedroom courtyard with framed views through the stone wall across the fields to the west.

Stairs lead from the ground floor up to a spacious openplan living area with open views and floor to ceiling
