Remain nameless

-

We seem to be having the Named Person Scheme foisted on parents despite it being impractical and another example of “Government knows best”.

It is obvious that head teachers are already under enough pressure and this potentially cumbersome scheme is an

altogether unnecessary extra burden.

Teachers and doctors, together with social and health professionals, are already briefed to look out for potential child abuse. To make it a legal matter will lead to extensive marginal cases being reported for fear of the consequences of missing potential abuse – the needle in the haystack scenario!

The legal implication of who receives private medical details has already been challenged but the Government still seems to want to persist. BBC1’S Question Time host David Dimbleby could not contain his surprise that the scheme would involve every child being covered by a named person.

Surely in a time of scarce funding it would be better to

concentrate on clearly identified vulnerable children, whom, sadly, the system already seems to struggle with.

Enough is enough. Is the Government too arrogant to listen to common sense and scrap this over-cumbersome and unnecessary scheme, or is dogma and further erosion of personal responsibility for parents to continue?
