Dalgleish looking for Dark Profit to light up Musselburgh again

- By GORDON BROWN

Dark Profit faces nine rivals as he bids for back-to-back wins in the feature race at Musselburgh tonight.

Keith Dalgleish’s top-weight, a two-length scorer 12 months ago, concedes upwards of 7lbs in the St Andrews Timber And Building Supplies Handicap over seven furlongs.

Stable companion Jacob Black, the winner of four races already this term, is among the field along with Jim Goldie’s mare Jessie Allan, a threetime winner so far in 2018 and making the 50th appearance of her career.

Goldie said: “It was a memorable day at Redcar back in May when she won for the first time in her career.

“It was a long time coming but she’s since shown it was no fluke with two more wins at Ayr. We’re delighted she is giving her owner Robert Mclachlan such a brilliant time and hopefully she’s not done winning yet.”

The colt, who has two runs in class 2 company under his belt, takes on eight fellow juveniles including recent Wolverhampton winner Lonely Boy trained by Karl Burke and owned by former footballer and current Fleetwood Town head coach Joey Barton.

Meanwhile, Rum Runner bounced back to form when scoring at Newmarket last month after being slightly out of his depth in hot handicaps at Sandown, Ascot and Goodwood.

Trainer Richard Hannon keeps the son of Havana Gold in the grade of his latest success for the Unibet Handicap at Haydock this afternoon. It can be rewarded with another big performance.

At Ascot, Sextant can navigate his way to a second successive victory when he makes his third career appearance.

His Newbury display last month was eyecatching, to say the least. Troublesome in the preliminaries, The Queen’s son of Sea The Stars was slowly away and still quite clueless despite having made his debut just 11 days earlier at Nottingham where he was second.

Ryan Moore gave the threeyear-old colt plenty of time to find his stride and Sextant finished off with a flourish to score comfortably by two and three-quarter lengths.

The mile and a half suited him well that day and he can follow up in the Garden For All Seasons Novice Stakes.
