MSPS must listen

-

I watched a debate at Holyrood on the Programme for Government. It reminded me in part of a school project when we had to use certain words and phrases in our text.

The SNP were true to form: “Would you agree with me”, “power grab”, “Westminster’s Fault”, “It was the Tories” and, of course, “Brexit Doom”.

The answer to all of the above is the “I” word. Cutting through all the mutual admiration society and the noise was some glimmer of why any of these people are actually there. Replying to an SNP member spouting about the

number of green buses on the road the answer was “My constituents just want a bus, any bus.” They also no longer had a health centre.

The person out there is all those people. The machinations of political parties and back-slapping is not what impacts on them. Throwing money at projects, introducing laws that cannot be enforced for a quick headline is not giving them buses, ferries,

doctors or opening closed hospitals.

I would suggest that at the beginning of term all members at Holyrood look closely at themselves. Are they really representing all their constituents, listening to their needs and speaking out even against their own party if that is what is needed? The people of Scotland can live in hope.
