Golden moment as Scots make Open progress
Scotland needed a win over Belarus to qualify for round two of the Hockey Series Open, and that they did in style with a comfortable 4-0 scoreline in Lousada. Grove Menzieshill striker Cameron Golden struck twice and David Forsyth and Rob Harwood added two more.
In the National League, Grange began the defence of the men’s first division with a 6-1 thumping of newly-promoted Gordonians at Peffermill. Irishman Frank Ryan grabbed a hat-trick and new foreign imports Clemens Rusnjak, from Austria, and Aussie Dylan Bean, with a double, also pitched in. Adam Walker pulled one back for the Aberdonians.
There was also an Aussie at the heart of Uddingston’s 4-2 victory over Watsonians.
Roddy Craig gave the Edinburgh side a slight advantage at the interval but then they succumbed to a Brad Hughes four-goal blitz to put the Lanarkshire side 4-1 ahead. Ally Dougall scored for Watsonians late on. Hillhead and Clydesdale drew 1-1.
In the women’s first division Grange went down 4-0 to Wildcats, Heather Aitken (2), Alex Stuart and Kate Holmes were on target.
Clydesdale Western beat GHK 3-1, Dundee Wanderers top the division after a 3-0 win at Hillhead and Grove Menzieshill were 3-0 winners over Glasgow University.
